Whitcher Wildlife Ltd is a small family run ecological consultancy offering a range of ecological services. We are based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire and work throughout the UK providing services to anyone from individual homeowners to large housing and railway companies.
Whitcher Wildlife Ltd are audited under the RISQS safety scheme and have an Acclaim Accreditation, a Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP) scheme, as part of our Gold membership of Constructionline ensuring that all of our work is carried out to a high standard.
All of our work is carried out in line with the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM), Code of Conduct and all of our employees are members of the institute with the exception of Sam White, who is current working on an application to join the institute, and Sue Whitcher, our office manager.
The company was founded by Derek Whitcher in 1998 with Jenny Roebuck joining the company in 2001 and Steven Whitcher joining in 2002. We have now expanded and have a team of ten people.
Ruth joined Whitcher Wildlife Ltd in 2004. Ruth holds a degree in Environmental Science (BSc) and over ten years experience as an ecological consultant. Ruth has supplemented her knowledge through attendance on a variety of courses run by CIEEM, FSC and BCT. Ruth is a full member of CIEEM, holds survey licences for great crested newts and bats in England, Scotland and Wales and survey licences for white clawed crayfish and barn owls in England.
Derek has over twenty years experience surveying for wildlife and has run his own consultancy since 1998. He has extensive experience of a wide variety of survey techniques for a range of protected species supplemented by attendance on a wide array of training courses through CIEEM, FSC and BCT. Derek is a full member of CIEEM and holds survey licences for great crested newts and bats in England, Scotland and Wales in addition to survey licences for white clawed crayfish and barn owls in England.
James joined Whitcher Wildlife Ltd in 2003. He has over ten years experience as an ecological consultant carrying out ecology and Phase 1 Habitat surveys. James has added to his knowledge through attendance on a variety of courses run by CIEEM, FSC and BCT. James is a full member of CIEEM, holds survey licences for great crested newts and bats in England, Scotland and Wales and survey licences for white clawed crayfish and barn owls in England. James is also confined spaces trained and qualified in tree climbing and aerial rescue.
Alex joined Whitcher Wildlife Ltd in 2016. She holds degrees in Zoology and Environmental Management and has been working in the environmental sector since leaving university. Alex has furthered her knowledge by attending various courses run by CIEEM, FSC and BCT. Alex is a graduate member of CIEEM but is currently applying to upgrade her membership to associate. Alex holds a survey licences for great crested newts in England, Scotland and Wales and survey licences for bats, hazel dormice and barn owls in England. Alex is also registered with Natural England to catch and relocate white clawed crayfish during watercourse maintenance works.
Sam White has joined Whitcher Wildlife Ltd as an Ecological Consultant for the 2018 survey season. Sam has previous experience working as an Assistant Ecologist focused on protected species and Phase 1 Habitat surveys. Sam holds a Natural England survey licence for great crested newts and is working towards obtaining survey licences covering other species.
